Progress on the Southern Railway. The Southern pioneered railway electrification in the UK but its technological vision encompassed diesel locomotion as well. This 1947 poster by Patrick Keeley illustrates both power sources.

The text reads 'Electric Locomotives & Diesel Electric Locomotives capable of carrying heavy goods and passenger express trains. Progress on the Southern Railway'. The electric locomotive is either CC1 (built 1941) or CC2 (1945), both built at Ashford in Kent. The diesel locomotive appears to represent one of three (numbered 10201 to 10203) designed between the War and nationalisation in 1948. Construction of the first wasn't completed until 1951, so they never actually appeared in Southern livery.
